But how do these feeders work? Window bird feeders are made from tough non-stainable polycarbonate material which is strong enough against glass windows but still safe for the birds to land on. These are very easy to mount and use. It employs suction cups to be attached directly on your windowpane. The resistance of these cups can be reinforced by a dab of cooking oil at its center, or by washing it with soap and warm water and clearing out the bubbles before applying. It should be pressed firmly but gently with your thumb, from its center towards the outside. It should stick for an indefinite period, without any trouble even when you slide off and remove your window bird feeders from these suction cups to have it cleaned and refilled with seeds.

Window feeders may also feature space for water, and an amazing one-way mirror for a one-way close up view. This one-way viewing allows you to observe the birds while they can’t see you.

Window bird feeders also appear in solarium and air-conditioner types which are set up on the inside sill of a window. Appropriately called windowsill feeders, it should be able to sit on the outside sill as well, and be secured by tension poles in order for your window to close completely.

If you’re worried about squirrels, some window bird feeders are squirrel proof bird feeders while other are not.

Care for this type of feeder is crucial. Sometimes the suction cups may loosen so it is best to rinse your window bird feeders with warm water and use a soft scrub to clean its surface and corners. This would keep your view of the birds crystal clear.

Sparrows, starlings, chickadees, tufted titmice, nuthatches, mockingbirds, finches and orioles are just among the species that have been known to eat on window bird feeders. But if you are seeking for a particular bird, then you have to draw them in with the right feeds like the Niger seeds for goldfinches, black oil sunflower seeds for most small birds, and dried insects for blackbirds. Yes, these window bird feeders can also be stocked with dried insects, mealworms and peanuts. All to attract these birds right by your windows!
