Oriole Feeders

Oriole feeders are made especially for the migratory orioles. These brightly colored birds with clear whistling calls are generally perching birds. They are part of the passerine family. They used to be regular visitors on hummingbird feeders which are purposed to accommodate the perching abilities and nectar diet of hummingbirds. However, orioles do not just feed on nectars alone. They primarily eat fruits like berries, apples and oranges, jelly, insects and caterpillars as well. Hence, oriole feeders have been developed by bird expert manufacturers.
Specifically designed for the shape of the bird’s beak, its body and preferences, these innovative oriole bird feeders can be seen in various styles and features.

The ideal oriole feeder points have similar features to that of a hummingbird feeder, unlike droll yankee bird feeders or finch feeders. An ant moat and bee guards since it contains sweet flower nectar or its substitute sugar and water combination. It should be able to hold an adequate amount, 16 ounces, of the sweet liquid, and should have enough number of feeding ports. It comes with a brass hanging rod, and it is easy to clean. The orioles drink from these nectar feeders.

Just as inviting are the orange halves, apples, grapes or berries placed in convenient fruit feeders. This type of oriole bird feeders can be found in the form of simple metal skewers hung from a built-in rod or an anchor for holding apples and oranges. It could also be somewhat like a rugged birdhouse suspended from a tree or mounted on a window, which is to be filled with fresh fruits. Some of these fruit feeders even have plastic crocks for jelly, insects and mealworms. It has as much space for the orioles and other fruit-loving perching birds for you to watch.

Other styles can be noticed in jelly feeders which function to serve the orioles’ favorite bird berry or grape jelly. These oriole bird feeders distinctively have Pyrex or glass cups on copper clips and a hanging hook. These cups can be easily removed and cleaned. A glass dish with a metal post is also available to stake in your garden. What’s great about these jelly tubs is that it can still be used for insects and worms as the orioles switch to this kind of diet in their breeding season.
Most oriole feeders are orange because these birds are favorably attracted to the color. With these feeders in your backyard, you can surely bask in the beautiful view and whistling song of the orioles.
