Bird Feeder Pole

Birders know so well that many birds favor feeding stations that are set high above the ground instead of ground feeders. They apply suspended bird feeders; but they still get disappointed of other animals in the area that scare the birds away and claim those birdseeds as if it were prepared for them. - a 4 x 4 log or wood fence post of 5 ft. or any length you prefer,
- cup hooks or hang-up hooks,
- and 4d finish nails.

All you have to do is drill 1-inch deep holes on each side of the pole, drive the nails on alternate sides, screw the cup hooks, and then add treats like fruits, suet or whole ears of dried corn. Attach the hang-up hooks for your hanging feeders, or put your choice of feeder on top of it. Choose carefully as to where and how you will mount it. With these few materials and a few hours, you will have an effective bird feeder pole.

Which feeder types require bird poles? If you have a hopper feeder, platform feeder, or tube feeder, then you definitely need to build or buy one. The traditional hopper feeder looks like a miniature barn with large storage for seeds. It is much better to clean and refill when mounted on a pole.

Platform feeders, on the other hand, appear like a flat box. It can be set on the ground, fixed to a pole or suspended from a tree, but most birds will flock to it when fixed to a bird feeder pole. The long cylindrical tube feeders which can be hung as well, is better on poles to keep the pesky squirrels out.
